20/2/15 - First Degree Commences at the Cooma Universities Centre

On Thursday night the Cooma Universities Centre held their first ‘face to face’ tutorial for the 2015 Bachelor of Business Studies (Events and Tourism Management) degree. The degree, in partnership with the University of Canberra, will combine online learning activities to be done in the students own time with face to face tutorials held at the CUC once a week to provide additional support and guidance.

Local girl, Claire Zollinger, is one of the student who has commenced her degree. “By studying at the CUC I can still live in Jindabyne and work full time whilst getting a University degree at the same time.” Local boy, Jack Johnson, another student of the degree says, “This degree will allow me to pursue a career which fits perfectly with the local region.”

Centre Manager, Zoe Dawson, believes the degree will become a draw card for the region, “We are incredibly fortunate to be based at the foot of one of Australia’s most iconic tourist destinations - The Snowy Mountains. With the support of the ski industry, as well as local businesses, this degree will offer a unique opportunity that can’t be found anywhere else in Australia.”

In addition to the Business Studies degree, the Cooma Universities Centre will also be facilitating a Bachelor of Education degree, specialising in Early Childhood Teaching or Primary Teaching. This nationally recognised degree is in partnership with CQUniversity and is due to commence in March with applications still being taken.

The third option that the Cooma Universities Centre offers local students is full access to computers, quiet study areas, fast internet, Wi-Fi and printing resources for any external/distance university degree Australia-wide. The cost for eligible students is $90 a semester to access the full suite of CUC resources.
